New Releases: Top Video Games Releasing this Quarter

News Tech

With September on its way out, the final quarter of 2022 is upon us and promises some highly anticipated releases.

The Year So Far

So far, 2022 has not disappointed with video game releases. Big names like Overwatch, Destiny and Cuphead have presented audiences with continuations that match visuals with breathtaking gameplay and challenging levels.

Meanwhile, newcomers have set new standards, as well as Elden Ring, had engaged players in its grip upon release, and the sequel is no doubt one of the most highly anticipated in gaming history.

Meanwhile, Cult of the Lamb wowed players with its stunning animation, while Stray introduced the simple yet oddly addictive appeal of seeing the world from the uncomplicated perspective of a cat. It shouldn’t work as well as it clearly does.

On the other hand, many fans were left disappointed after release dates were pushed back for some releases, like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

That being said, many names are set to make their debut on their original dates, and we’ll be looking at the top video games releasing this quarter of 2022.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Release Date: October 28, 2022

Formats: Windows, PlayStation (4 and 5), Xbox (One and Series X)

A household name with a pop culture legacy like a few others, the COD franchise returns this October with its 19th title as one of the top-anticipated video games releasing in the final quarter of 2022.

This sequel to the 2019 series reboot sees John Price pitted against drug cartels and terrorists while investigating and responding to a major international incident. The game is also set to feature an evolved iteration of the Special Ops.

Bayonetta 3

Release Date: October 28, 2022

Formats: Nintendo Switch

While not the only key single-player Nintendo release from this year, it’s certainly the one fans were most anxious about given the prolonged lack of an announcement, until they got one.

The aim is simple: hack and slash your way to victory while facing adversaries in the form of Homunculi, and using clever new tactics to stay on course. Gamers must continue their quest til they reach the island of Thule. Only then can they save the universe from the wrath of Singularity.

God of War Ragnarök

Release Date: November 9, 2022

Formats: Playstation 4 and 5

This is yet another single-player release that has survived the hell of uncertainty. GoW Ragnarök is set to be available in a standard release for PS 4 and 5, as well as a deluxe edition with bonus game features as well as a digital booklet and the game OST.

In this continuation of the 2018 God of War game, players shall visit new landscapes and wield new weapons, as they guide Atreus and Kratos through the Nine Realms and the challenges that come with them to prevent the destruction of Ragnarök.

Sonic Frontiers

Release Date: November 8, 2022

Formats: Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation (4 and 5), Xbox (One and Series X)

On top of foraying into visual media through a forthcoming Netflix series and releasing the best-selling video game-based movie of all time, Sega’s flagship franchise is set to make its return to our consoles this fall as one of the top video game releases in this upcoming ultimate quarter of 2022.

Sonic Frontiers sees our titular blue protagonist navigate a new, 3D environment in his classic pursuit of golden rings and elusive emeralds. Fans are understandably excited as each new release from the Sonic team promises a unique experience and thrill, and this is gearing up to be no different.
